Our Ambition
The design of Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School’s curriculum is deeply rooted in our Diocesan mission of,
‘forming Christ-centred pilgrims of hope with kind hearts, questioning minds, a thirst for knowledge and a hunger for justice’.
It is our ambition to ensure that our curriculum teaches all our children to discern and use their God-given gifts and talents to make a real difference in the world, to their own lives and the lives of others. We strive to ensure that they have the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to contribute to the common good in a rapidly developing world.
Our curriculum is ambitious, inclusive, and thoughtfully sequenced. Key knowledge and skills are revisited across different year groups with increasing complexity and depth, so that children make solid progress year on year across all subjects. From the very start, we focus on emotional wellbeing and belonging as the foundation for learning, to enable all our children to achieve their full potential and to thrive. Carefully chosen schemes, texts, meaningful experiences, and a values-driven approach help our children understand the world and their place within it.
We prioritise:
- Strong foundations in reading, writing, and maths.
- Rich opportunities across a wide curriculum.
- Memorable experiences that make learning stick.
Our Aims
- We want all our children to grow in faith and to be enthusiastic, life-long learners who are able to discuss, share and use their knowledge and skills
- We aim to provide a rich curriculum and environment that meets the needs of every child to prepare them for their own vocation, to thrive in and contribute to our rapidly changing world
- We want our children to be inquisitive, to want to know more and have the capacity to remember more as they move through school
- We aim to provide a curriculum that has real depth but is also teachable, clear and practical where possible
- We aim to utilise our outdoor environment to enhance our provision
- We want all of our children to be able to articulate their learning journey; to know what they can do well and how they can improve
Our Drivers
Through discussion with our children, governors and staff, we have identified 5 key drivers that we want to be the foundation for all we teach. The drivers are:
Our school is located in a beautiful location in Warwickshire. We are surrounded by natural beauty and an area which is rich in local history and geographical interest. As a school we strongly believe that our children should both contribute to and understand the community in which they live. Therefore, we ensure that wherever possible our local area is utilised as the starting point of our teaching and learning.
The design of our curriculum also ensures that children are given the opportunity to take part in a variety of enrichment experiences such as trips and visits, sporting, cultural and outdoor/forest school activities. These are built into the curriculum and provide children with opportunities they might not normally experience. There are also planned whole school events throughout the year that allow us to come together as a school community.
