Teaching and Learning

A new National Curriculum was introduced in all maintained Primary Schools in September 2014. One year on, Our Lady's are refining our curriculum and have introduced new target setting and assessment grids to assess the children against age related expectations. Please see the presentation below for further information.

Our Well being curriculum is at the centre of everything. We focus heavily on our school value of 'respect' and have whole class rewards linked to it. We believe in 'unity through diversity' and look to promote British values alongside our school virtues. Christ and his Gospel teachings are at the centre of all we teach.

In planning for implementation of the new curriculum, Our Lady's School staff looked at a variety of published schemes but we felt that these could be quite restrictive and not always suited to the requirements of a small school with mixed age classes.

Although this created extra work, the staff collaborated to create a curriculum that meets the national guidelines but is tailored to our school. It takes account of our rich environment and resources for geography and history in, for example, a local study which includes a visit to Mary Arden's farm in Stratford. We have planned enrichment weeks including: multi-faith week; art week and Shakespeare week.

The school has made a significant financial investment in resources to support the new Computing curriculum and this is proving very popular with the children.

Our curriculum framework is constantly under review and may be subject to change over time. Please look at the website for further information. We would welcome your feedback. If you would like to know anything further about our curriculum, please contact Mrs Madia or your child's class teacher. Regular information about your child's curriculum will be communicated with you at different points throughout the year.
